Our Dogs

Please note, due to competing in multiple organizations that differ on how they list titles as prefixes or suffixes, I have decided to reserve prefixes for championships or grand championships and all other titles as suffixes despite how the parent organization typically displays their titles.

Pogo is my gateway into dog sports. Pogo came to us as a puppy as a foster through a rescue. Shortly after taking him, the rescue closed and Pogo stayed with us. With the paperwork that came with him when he was surrendered to rescue, we were able to track down his breeders and figure out his actual birthday. Pogo is a very willing partner who puts up with always trying new sports. While he isn't super flashy or fast, he is a very consistent worker.

Trax came to us as a foster in December 2020 through a local rescue after he was surrendered for being too much dog. Shortly after we took him, the rescue closed; leaving us with yet another addition to the household. Trax is very much a work in progress that teaches me a lot about working with a little higher caliber of dog than I am used to. He is very much a go first, think later dog.

Nova was purchased from a breeder and attended a training facility where I work for puppy and basic obedience classes. When her previous owner decided it wasn't working out, we held onto Nova until she could find a new home. Turns out, that home was ours. Nova is my husband's dog and his first sport dog. She is a very happy and goofy girl.

Mara

Horski's Third Wheel

2013 (?)

Mara came to us as a foster through a rescue. She was approximately 1-2 years old at the time. She was so sweet and such an easy keeper, that she never left. While Mara arguably has the best manners in our household, she has probably had the least amount of training out of any of the dogs. We recently started dabbling in obedience to see if she can compete there, but still looking for the sport she excels in.

Funfetti

May 19, 2024

Funfetti, or Fetti for short, is a Stabyhoun that we imported from Kennel Malentha out of Norway. While we've been having a lot of fun in puppy conformation shows, I am excited to see what else our future holds for this happy, prancy fellow.
Other Brags: Our first imported dog.

Kovu

Not Registered

2010 (?)

Kovu was brought into an impound facility where I worked after being left tied up at a gas station in the middle of February. He was estimated to be 2-3 years old at the time by the vet. I couldn't help but bring him home. In 2022, my youngest sister reached out. She thought she was ready for a dog and wanted to try Kovu out. He now happily lives with her and I think is excited for endless comfy and warm spots to snuggle in, undivided attention on him, and not being trampled by the bigger dogs. While if anything happens we will always take him back and we do continue to pay for his expenses, Kovu will likely spend the rest of his days with her - although rest assured, we see him at all the family gatherings.

April 2009 - December 17, 2024

Weston is where my love for dogs started. Weston came into our lives as a young puppy after being tossed out a car window. Our vets estimated his birthday as April of 2009 and we've always celebrated on the 13th. Although I didn't get into dog sports until he was older, Weston is always a willing partner for whatever I ask of him. He started Dock Diving at almost 11 years old and earned his championship that year.  He won a trick competition at 12 years old.
On probably the worst day of my life, we had to make a quality-of-life call for Weston on December 17, 2024.

Caliban

Horski's Caliban CGC

June 15, 2012- September 17, 2021

Caliban was the first dog we ever got from a breeder (albeit we have learned more about what to look for out of a breeder since then). Caliban was my husband's dog and his best friend. He was a great dog that got along with everyone and everything. He never ran off from our unfenced home and he got along with all the critters. Sadly, Caliban was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in April of 2021. We tried our best to fight it with the amputation of his leg, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and homeopathic care. But, unfortunately, we ended his fight with cancer on September 17, 2021.

Embark Results - Not Done

Star came to us as a foster dog at 8 years old after her owners surrendered her to a high-kill shelter in KY- no place for a blind dog to be. We almost didn't take her, as we were nervous about what kind of care she would need, but saved her just before her deadline. Star was so easy and such a sweet and friendly dog. We adopted her later that year in 2014. Shortly after adopting her, Star started having medical issues. A MRI found a tumor in her spine at the base of her neck. The doctors gave her only a month or two left, but Star gave us over a year of time together before it was her time to go.

Lemon

February 5, 2023 - August 25, 2023

Lemon came to us in April 2023. She was a special needs puppy that needed a special home. Lemon had an undiagnosed spinal issue. As she aged, her mobility decreased and she became incontinent. But, she had a sassy and spicy personality to make up for her other shortcomings. Sadly, we had to make a quality-of-life call when Lemon was no longer able to move, even with the assistance of a wheelchair.

Cascade

Not Registered

December 2, 2016

Cascade came to us as a foster in February of 2017. Her breeder surrendered her to rescue as there was something wrong with her and they weren't able to sell her. While we don't know what happened to her, it left Cascade incontinent. We fostered Cascade for four years, even after her rescue closed. Eventually, due to a work change with the pandemic, I was away from the home for too long to care for her needs. We found a rescue in North Dakota that was willing to take her on, For Belle's Sake. We transferred Cascade to them in June of 2020- which was a very heartwrenching day. Cascade got adopted from them a few months later and, according to the last update we received, is doing well in her home.
