About Us

We reside on a 10 acre hobby farm that is west of the Twin Cities, MN metro in Annandale. We have dogs, cats, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl that all call our plot of land home.

Our Backstory

My name is Kathryn and I have always had a love of animals; this love has evolved my path to where I am today.

I started my passion of working and being around dogs by volunteering my time at the Franklin County Dog Shelter in Columbus, OH in 2006. I happily spent all my extra time enriching the dog's time at the shelter until we moved to MN. I then began volunteering with the Minnesota Valley Human Society.

My first job was as a kennel assistant for Southfork Animal Hospital, which was fitting, as at the time (and my whole life up to that point), I wanted to be a veterinarian. This job gave me some basic information on animal husbandry & care and taught me useful restraints when it came to pet care over the 3+ years I was there.

From June 2012 until September 2017, I worked for Augusta Pet Services and American Boarding Kennels. I started by working on the dog daycare floor, I then helped with guest service at their boarding facility, and for the last several years, I worked as an in-home dog trainer- mostly focusing on puppies and basic obedience.

A move out to more acreage outside of the cities meant the drive was no longer feasible, so I left my dog training job I so loved. But, I didn't stay out of the game long. I started teaching classes at AQK9 in May of 2019 and still periodically do so. In 2019, I also worked with a service dog organization for roughly 6 months. I also instruct group classes for rescue organizations' fosters.

I served as a board member for Crossroads Animal Shelter from 2019 to 2021.

In 2020, I started taking on Board & Trains through various rescues around the Twin Cities metro and select private parties.

All of this led me to the point of starting Low Down Dog Training :)

In addition to that, we have been fosters for various animal rescues since 2012. We have had hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes come through our home from pregnant dogs to geriatric seniors. Due to my interest, we had a lot of behavioral needs fosters as well.
